Learning Targets:
Literacy Standards: CCSS.ELA-LITERACY.RH.6-8.2 Determine the central ideas or information of a primary or secondary source; provide an accurate summary of the source distinct from prior knowledge or opinions. |
INTRODUCTION:
Ancient Greece has left a lasting impact on other civilizations and our modern world. This project will allow you to look more deeply at some aspect of ancient Greece and analyze its influence.
TASK:
Working in a group of no more than 3, or alone if you choose, you will choose one topic from ancient Greece to teach the class about. This will include 2 parts.
PROCESS:
Step 1 - Choose a topic you are interested in learning more about. Realize that you need to research how the Greeks made developments in that area AND THEN find information about how other civilizations expanded on it. You will need examples!!!
Medicine/Medical Knowledge (Focus on the discoveries they made or theories they had and how those have developed throughout history to what we have today -procedures, ideas about disease, etc.)
Language (Give information about their language and how it influenced the development of other languages. Do not forget to mention all the words and word parts that our language uses too!)
Entertainment (This can touch on the areas of theater, Games, Olympics, etc. What did the Greeks create and how did later civilizations use and further develop it)
Religion and Mythology (This should focus on how their religion influenced the ancient Romans and how it has impacted us today - movies, books, video games, advertisements for products etc.)
Architecture and Engineering (What styles and structures are they known for building and how were they used and developed by other civilizations, including us today. Give some modern examples of how their building style still influences us)
Government (This should focus on democracy and how it was used by the Greeks and then how it was changed and used by later civilizations - the Romans, the United States, etc.)
Math and Science (This should focus on mathematical and scientific theories and inventions that the Greeks developed and how those theories and practices were used and improved upon by later civilizations. Why are they still important today? Do we use any of them still?)
Step 2 - Decide what format you will use for your project:
Online presentation (Google, Prezi, Haiku Deck)
Website
Poster
Brochure
Booklet
Paper
OR something creative you come up with
Step 3 - Begin researching information for your project. This Project must include 2 parts or sections. You can organize them however you would like.
The 2 parts that you need are:
The following 2 parts of research/information must be included in your final project:
Part 1. Your topic's importance to Ancient Greece:
Part 2. Your topic and its connection to later civilizations:
Step 4 - Put your final project together:
Now you must put your information together in project format. It is up to you how you do it. We will be working on this project the entire week so I expect excellence and effort. This is not something that can be put together in 2 class periods and receive a passing score. You must clearly demonstrate that you used class time wisely and worked to your full potential to do well.
This project will be presented to the class so you want to make sure your information is clear and easy to understand.
Things to ALWAYS remember:
